Missions

Her first missions were in Northern waters. On 9 August 1942 P-247 ended her first war patrol at Lerwick, and on the 24th of the month she set out for Gibraltar to join the Eighth Submarine Flotilla which was based at the depot ship, HMS Maidstone. On 9 October 1942 she sailed from Gibraltar bound for Malta, where she was to join the 10th Submarine Flotilla.

On 3 November, P-247, together with P-211 (HMS/m Safari) and P-212 (HMS/m Sahib), escorted by British minesweeper HMS Speedy, departed Malta to patrol the Sicilian waters, specifically the area to the north-west of Cape San Vito and the channel which separates Sicily from Tunisia.
